I feel like to be a band leader it takes being more wiser than others but also the thought in your mind it doesn't mean take over and make sure everyone dose what you want but instead have others share their ideas because that could be way better to how you personally would put a song with instruments.
Also you would have to be a person that can set examples so if there are rehearsal you would have to make sure that you are there early and that others are there to however this would have to be done in a calm and collective manor , so this mean not to be forceful but to simply show others so they could follow and also when progress has been seen make sure others are aware so they feel good in some way to either encourage them to keep going.
A band leader can also take a step back to see what others can do without him /her so they can see where they can improve serten things in the whole song.
